Important Soup Announcement

We're halfway through March which means you have half a month to visit a Souplantation restaurant (some of which are called Sweet Tomatoes) and sample their Classic Creamy Tomato Soup which I think is terrific. Many of you have written to say you agree. A few of you have written to say that it's just good tomato soup, unworthy of the hype on this blog. You are all correct.

The purpose of this posting is not to hector you to go eat soup. The purpose of this posting is to make Full Disclosure that I am receiving compensation for my endorsements. I didn't ask for 'em but the Souplantation people just sent me a fistful of coupons for free meals…and they also sent me one of those table display cards for my favorite soup. I scanned it and have posted it above, thereby saving me the trouble of stealing one off a table as I was thinking of doing at the end of the month.  Not to disagree with my new sponsors but I don't dip Grilled Cheese Focaccia Dippers.  What I do is to get a handful of their seasoned croutons from the salad bar and dump 'em in.

If you go over to their website to check on locations or hours, take the time to join their Club Veg.  They'll e-mail you great coupons every week.  The soup is good at full price but it's even better when it's cheaper. And as I've discovered when they've send me these bribes before, it's best when it's free.

Soup 4 Less

As noted here so often that I'm sick of saying it, I really like the Classic Creamy Tomato Soup they offer during March at the Souplantation restaurants, which are known as Sweet Tomatoes restaurants in some vicinities. If you go to one the next few days, here's a great discount coupon you'll want to use.

Soup 4 2

So all this month, while they have their Classic Creamy Tomato Soup available as a selection, I'm frequenting the Souplantation. Tonight, I was there with my pal Mark Rothman, who's a very funny guy who wrote and/or produced some very funny TV shows. He also writes a very funny weblog that should be of interest to anyone who wonders about backstage doings in the teevee business, especially on sitcoms. I don't always agree with Mark but he's right about an awful lot of stuff, including my favorite soup which he liked well enough to go back for a second bowl.

Souplantation has, by the way, altered the recipe for their Classic Creamy Tomato Soup. It used to involve a chicken stock and now it's vegetarian. I didn't notice the change when I made my first two visits of the month but I did tonight on this, my third. If they ask me (which they won't), I'll tell them I like the new version about 3% less.

Let's Talk Turkey!

Yesterday on this here blog, I recommended the Jennie-O Turkey Pot Roast as a thing of great convenience, terrific value and exquisite flavor. Many of you have written me that you've been able to find them in your local Costco, Kroger, Ralphs or other retail outlet. Good for you. Some of you have written to say you've tried one and it's everything I say it is. Good for both of us.

A couple of folks have written to express confusion between what I'm touting and other Jennie-O turkey products. They make a lot of different ones, including the ones in their So Easy line. My recommendation applies only to the Jennie-O Turkey Pot Roast…and by the way, if you go to the Jennie-O website, it does not seem to be there under All Products. It's the best thing they make and it ain't on their site.

It especially should not be confused, as some of you have done, with their So Easy line of quick-to-cook meals. I've tried a few of them. Didn't like the Turkey Meatloaf. Didn't like the Turkey Salisbury Steak. I kinda like the Turkey Breast Roast but it's not in the same league as the Turkey Pot Roast, which is a completely different thing.  Some stores also carry a Turkey Breast Slices package which is the same thing as the Turkey Breast Roast, only cut up differently.  Anyway, the product  I like is the Turkey Pot Roast.  Say it with me: Turkey Pot Roast.

This March, I fully intend to eat Jennie-O Turkey Pot Roast along with the Classic Creamy Tomato Soup from the Souplantation.  That's right: March is Classic Creamy Tomato Soup Month at all outlets of Souplantation, some of which go by the name Sweet Tomatoes.  In the past here, I've praised and surely overpraised this soup but it's really, really good.
