How Are You Fixed For Blades?

I don't think I believe the recent report by the Enquirer that from the confines of his prison lodging, O.J. Simpson has been attempting to sell the knife he used to kill Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown. The premise is that he kept it all these years and — well, here, read these quotes…

"(O.J. is) looking for a strictly cash deal so that the money can be deposited in offshore accounts and can't be traced directly to him," the National Enquirer reported a source close to the ex-football star and actor told the paper.

The Enquirer reported – again from a source close to Simpson – that the knife is presently stashed in the Bahamas, where it awaits the highest bidder.

"It's not just about the money," the source reportedly told the paper. "O.J. will get sick satisfaction from putting one over on the cops and Ron Goldman's family. He'd love to think he's outsmarted them."

So I dunno. I think if I murder two people and the most significant gap in the case against me is that they can't produce the murder weapon, I don't think I'm keeping that murder weapon around. I think at the first opportunity, it's going somewhere no one, self included, can find it.

And let's say I'm convicted of another crime and I'm sitting in prison, serving a sentence that could total 33 years and I do have that murder weapon stashed away someplace. I don't think I'm as interested in making money off it now as I am in trying to convince the parole board (or whatever entity might let me out before the 33 years is up) that I'm a good person. Granted, the murder case is not technically relevant to the crime for which I've been incarcerated but my character is, as is whether my early release would spark public outrage. "Wants to get out so he can start spending the money he made from selling the knife with which he killed his ex-wife" is not exactly an argument that if released, I will henceforth lead a decent, moral life.

Makes no sense at all. And now that I think about it — and about all the other things Simpson did that made no sense at all — I'm thinking maybe it is true…
