Travelaxe is a free service that has sure helped me find cheap lodgings. It's a piece of software that you download to your computer. You tell it where you want to go and when, and it scans the websites of travel agents and finds you an array of rates. There are times when I've found a better price at a given hotel that way than I could have gotten by booking through the hotel's own website. Anyway, it's always worth a try.
