Wednesday Early Evening

Yesterday, I linked to a video about Los Angeles and said it was from 1953…which is what the YouTube description said. I should have noticed the copyright date on it which, as reader-of-this-site Mark Bumbera pointed out, says it's from 1945. No wonder I didn't recognize much in it.

A number of you have written in recently to ask what I think about Bill Maher's comments on the Writers Strike and his decision to resume doing his show without writers. Even though I used to sometimes think he said some very wise things on his show, I long ago stopped watching Bill Maher or caring a whole lot what he thinks about anything.

And another number of you have asked when I'll make my next convention appearance and whether my partner Sergio Aragonés will be there. The next con I have on my calendar is WonderCon Anaheim, which takes place March 29-31 of 2024. Señor Aragonés will decide closer to those dates whether he will be present.

I've lately been getting a number of spam/scam calls from folks claiming to work for CVS Pharmacy saying they're shipping me some much needed medication but to do so, they need certain information from me. It's the kind of info you don't want to give strangers of the possibly nefarious kind so I tell them I don't think they're really from CVS. They assure me they are. I ask them who owns CVS. They hang up on me.

Speaking of Scams: Periodically, we remind you here that eBay and other online merchant sites are awash with bogus sketches by Charles Schulz, Jack Kirby, Garry Trudeau, Bill Watterson and other famous cartoonists whose original sketches go for a lot of money. Some of the fakes are the kind of thing you could probably draw for yourself holding the pen in your toes. Someone with a much wider circulation than I have should do an investigation and exposé on this racket.

Lastly for now: The next chapter of "Borders Crossing" will be along any day now. I hope you'll feel your patience has been rewarded.
