This Just In…

Newt Gingrich says, "Politics has become a really nasty, vicious, negative business and I think it's disgusting and I think it's dishonest."

In other news, Larry Flynt says he's disgusted by porn and Chef Boyardee says people should stop eating canned spaghetti.

Making Over the Makeover

Okay, ignore previous message. I think I've figured out the problem. It's a little thing but unfortunately, it will require a full reinstall to fix. So I'm going to leave the site like this while I tend to other matters and sometime over the next day or two, probably in the wee and small hours, I will redo what must be redone. Your patience is appreciated…and mine is gone.

Makeover Report

Well, I'm stumped. I originally built this site as a test site at another web address and tweaked it so it looked right in Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. Last night, I installed it at this address, tweaked it exactly the same way…and it looks right in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. In my version of I.E. (9), it adds odd spacing between items and clips off the bottom of the little line that says when the posting was posted. The test site still looks fine in all three browsers and I can't find any difference in the software between the test site and this one. To make things more maddening, the new version looks almost right in Internet Explorer 8.

If anyone out there is facile with WordPress and can offer a suggestion or three, I'd love to hear it. (Yes, I tried reinstalling WordPress. Yes, the two style.css files match exactly.) In the meantime, it's just going to look a bit odd in Internet Explorer.

Just Before Bedtime

Well, the site looks pretty much the way I want it to…in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Internet Explorer is insisting on adding some extra padding in places where it shouldn't be so I'll try fiddling with things over the next few days.

While I was setting things up, I was listening to the New Year's Eve edition of Stu's Show. Stu Shostak and his lovely partner Jeanine Kasun hosted a mess of celebs into their home last night for a party and podcast. Among those heard on the six-hour extravaganza were Rose Marie, June Foray, Tony Dow, Randy West, Hank Garrett, Grace Fraga, Stanley Livingston, Frank Bank, Randal Malone, Butch Patrick…and even me. It was quite a show and Stu's decided to repeat it today at 1 PM Pacific Time. Just go to his website at the appointed hour to listen in and join the fun.

Happy New Year!

I still have a buncha things to fix and amend over the next few days but we are now up and running on WordPress software with our new design. The transition was easier than I expected…and hey, remember how I said the old weblog postings would be offline for a few weeks? Well, they're up. I figured out a quicker way to do the reconfiguration there, though there's still no Search function. So now you can find my old weblog and the one before it in the menu at upper right.

A few more features await installation but I've done enough FTPing and tweaking for one night. Let's talk about what day this is. This is the first day of a much better year…for you, for me, for all of us. I used to think it was silly to say things like that. I'd think, "Don't tell us things will be better. Do something to make them better." But I've learned there's a value to approaching the world with optimism as long as you don't think that alone will get you anywhere. You still have to make the good things happen. It's just easier when you believe that's possible.
